USA: Language, Society, Culture
The Karelian State Pedagogical University (Petrozavodsk) announces an interdisciplinary conference «USA: Language, Society, Culture», dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Sister-College Project of the KSPU and the College of Saint Scholastica (Duluth, Minnesota, USA).
The partners of the Conference are Petrozavodsk City Administration and the American Corner of the National Library of Karelia.
The days of the Conference are September 18-20, 2009.
The work of the conference will be organized in the following panels:
• The Development of American English
• Methodology of Teaching English: sociocultural approach
• Topical Problems of the USA Social Life
• USA Contemporary culture: from modernity to postmodernity
• USA and European Nations
• Round –Table Discussion «Aspects of cooperation: USA and Russia in the globalizing world”
The working languages of the Conference are Russian and English.
The publication of the conference materials is envisaged. The articles (up to 2 pages, Times New Roman, 12, 1,5 interval, references in the end) may be sent by e-mail - email@example.com or handed in electronic form at registration desk (September 18, 10.00).
The Conference organization fee is 500 Roubles (includes the publication of articles, coffee-breaks, excursion to the famous Kivach Waterfall and the first Russian resort “Martsialniye Vody – Waters of Mars). The payment can be done by the bank transfer (the account number will be or at the registration desk.
The venue of the conference is Lenin Avenue, # 29. (trolleybus № 1, 2, taxies to the stop “University”)
Travel and Accommodation expenses are covered by the Conference Participants.
Please, inform about the need for, and the type of, hotel reservation in advance (before August 1, 2009). Accommodation is also possible at the University Hostel (550-600 RUR/night).
