Melvyn Weissman

Dr. Melvyn G. Weissman spent his career at the County College of Morris, Randolph, Nerw Jersey, he then moved to Colorado Springs where he is currently an adjunct professor of history at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs teaching courses in Russian history and Russian culture. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois and his Doctorate from Carnegie-Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His major areas of study are Medieval Russia and Medieval Europe. His dissertation concentrated on the Carolingians.
Dr. Weissman has recently completed a book that compares developments in Western society with those in Russia. He examines both the similarities and major differences between the two cultures. His host University of the Mari-el is anxious to translate the text into Russian for their use.
Dr. Weissman has been to Russia dozens of times since 1991. In 1998 he taught at the University of St.Petersburg, Department of International Relations. In 2000 he was awarded a Fulbright and taught at the University of the Mari, where he is returning for his second Fulbright. While at the University he will offer Master Classes on innovative teaching methods, visit other Universities offering seminars on topics of history and teaching modalities, and assist the University of the Mari's international studies and student exchange programs.
