Meagan Gorman graduated from the College of the Holy Cross this past May as a Russian major and Visual Arts minor. During the fall semester of her junior year, she studied abroad in St. Petersburg, Russia, attending Herzen University and volunteering in a local orphanage. This was a life changing experience for her and she became determined to take an active role in the Russian orphan dilemma when she completed college. Next year, Meagan will be traveling to Ufa, Russia to study Russian at Bashkir University and to volunteer at another orphanage. She hopes to teach the children English, write a children’s book to help them learn about America, and try to integrate the children into the community through a Big Brother/Big Sister type volunteer program. Meagan also hopes to extend one of the many Summer Host Programs for Russian orphans in America to include the children of Ufa so that they may someday be adopted.
