Vitaly V. Kulapov (RUSSIA, Saratov)
Age: 25

My academic career started in 1995 when I entered the Saratov State Academy of Law. Having won the competition initiated in 1997 by the Open Society Institute and led within the Moscow School of Social & Economic Sciences, I received the grant for studies on a non-degree program at the Legal Studies Department of the Central European University (Budapest, Hungary). Accordingly, I studied there during the 1998-1999 academic year.

In June, 2000 I graduated from the Saratov State Academy of Law with excellence, and was awarded two degrees: “Lawyer” and “Reviewer-translator” (Russian-English languages, with specialization in jurisprudence). In November, 2000 I was admitted to the Post-Graduate School of the Academy, to the department of Theory of State and Law. Up to the present time I’ve been teaching this discipline. Since October, 2001 I have been practicing law as an advocate of the Saratov Specialized Bar.

The field of my professional interest includes the system and forms of human rights protection. By now I have prepared dissertation for obtaining the scientific degree of the Candidate of juridical sciences. The topic is “The Theoretical Issues of the Protection of the Rights of the Child in the Russian Federation”.

Having received the grant in a competition organized by the Fulbright Program, I was admitted into the International Human Rights Law LL.M. Program of the Center for Civil & Human Rights of the Law School of the University of Notre Dame (USA, Indiana). On completing my studies there I plan to return to the Saratov State Academy of Law to continue my scientific activity and resume my work as the professor. Besides, it is my intention to go on protecting human rights as an advocate.
