I graduated from Udmurt State University (Izhevsk). Since 1977 I am professional guitarist and teacher of music. I organized a series of jazz concerts at Philharmony. There I performed together with leading russian and european jazz musicians. I am member of International Association for Jazz Education and clinician of 25th Conference in New York with clinics "The way from Ch.Christian to J.Scofield".
At the University of Iowa I plan to present a course of master-classes in the development of jazz guitar styles in American music since the early 1930s through the end of 1990s. It will concern different movements of American jazz styles, such a swing, be-bop, fusion, etc.
I also aim at introducing some russian guitar traditions.
Part of my fellowship time I'd like to spend in Musical Library for research of jazz compositions, CD and DVD information. The goal here is to renew my historical and theoretical knowledge and system of jazz education in America and its impact on the world music process, especially in Russia.
I hope, that my project could be kind of an intercultural one , which would be of use and interest both to American and Russian musical world.
