Rebecca Davis

As a recent summa cum laude graduate of Temple University, I am excited to begin the next phase of my academic journey on a Fulbright grant to St. Petersburg, Russia. At Temple, I combined my three diverse interests: business studies, dance/choreography, and Russian studies. Dance has always been a part of my life and my fascination with Russia developed out of my appreciation for the pioneers of ballet, almost all of who were Russian. Nevertheless, I entered business school and concentrated in entrepreneurial studies to learn the mechanics of operating a successful company. Although this may seem paradoxical, it is the deliberate path I chose to reach my career goal of establishing an international dance-theater company that presents productions based on literary works, historical events, and social issues to audiences around the world.

In Russia, I will be spending ten months training at the Choreography and Ballet Direction Department of The Saint Petersburg Conservatory. This program will play a critical role in developing my ability to choreograph works that effectively communicate issues to audiences. I hope to augment my overall understanding of the Russian choreographic methodology by actively participating in the choreographic process and learning from my Russian instructors and peer group. I look forward to sharing this experience with my fellow Fulbright colleagues.
I am posting a bi-weekly journal about my Fulbright experiences on that website.
