Andrew Westerhaus

Hello, my name is Andrew Westerhaus, and during my Fulbright year, I will be attending lectures on Russian music theory, history and aesthetics at the Moscow State Conservatory named after P.I. Tchaikovsky. As part of my Fulbright project, I will also be conducting research on the Russian/Soviet musicologist and theorist, Boris Asaf’yev, in various libraries and archives.
I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in May of 2003 with a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in music theory. Previously, I studied at Vanderbilt University (located in Nashville, Tennessee) where I earned bachelor’s degree in music (B.M.) with a major in vocal performance and a minor in the Russian language. I am from Des Moines, Iowa.

Following my studies in Moscow this year, I plan to enroll in the Ph.D. program in music theory at the University of Chicago in the fall of 2004.
