William Whisenhunt

I received a BA in History and Russian from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, an MA in history from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a PhD in history from the University of Illinois at Chicago. I am currently a Professor of History at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, Illinois where I regularly teach courses on American, European, World, and Russian history. I published In Search of Legality: Mikhail M. Speranskii and the Codification of Russian Law with East European Monographs in 2001. I have recently co-authored (with Marina Swoboda) A Russian Paints America: Pavel P. Svin’in’s Impressions of Early Nineteenth Century America forthcoming from McGill-Queen’s University Press.

I spent three months in St. Petersburg and Moscow, Russia in 1995 conducting research. In 2001, I was a Visiting Lecturer in American Studies at Canterbury Christ Church University College in Canterbury, England. I look forward to teaching American Studies at Ryazan State University. I hope to learn more about Russian perceptions of contemporary and historical America. I expect to learn more about the Russian educational system. I also would like to explore Russian-American Studies as an academic field in Russia and the United States. My family and I are looking forward to our stay in Ryazan.
