ANDREW WIGET

ANDREW WIGET received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Utah in 1977. Currently, he is Professor of English at New Mexico State University and Director of The New Mexico Heritage Center. In addition to numerous scholarly articles on American Indian oral traditions and contemporary American Indian literature, he is the author of Native American Literature (1985) and the editor of Critical Essays in Native American Literature (1985), as well as the award-winning Dictionary of Native American Literature(1995). He is a founding member of the editorial board of The Heath Anthology of American Literature, one of the most widely used university American literature texts, which has helped redefine the American literary canon. He was awarded a Fulbright for the Fall 2004 semester to teach a course on ethnicity and identity in American literature at The Faculty of Foreign Languages at Moscow State University, and to continue his current research interest in the native peoples of Siberia.
