Alexei ZAKHAROV (St. Petersburg, RUSSIA). Age 23. BA in Social and Economic Knowledge, minor in Political Science, Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, St. Petersburg (2000). Worked for a year as a free-lance assistant researcher for the Moscow Eurasia Regional Office of the Forum on Early Warning and Early Response – FEWER – an international consortium developing a global system of early warning about armed conflicts. On this position edited and summarized analytical reports on situations in conflict regions in the area of the former USSR and translated them into English. Obtained an MA degree in Political Science by the University of Manchester, at the Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences (2002). First, on coming to the Moscow School, the problem of resolution of armed conflicts was the main field of interest. Now it has been extended so that to include the issues concerned with ethnicity, multiculturalism, and integration of immigrants. I am going to study this, now enlarged, list of issues with the help of the Fulbright scholarship in the Joan B. Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame, IN, USA, and obtain MA degree in Peace Studies. After graduating I am planning to work as a researcher at NGOs/think-tanks in the field of conflict resolution or mediation worldwide. I also plan to pursue studies of conflict resolution at the Ph.D. level. Further aspirations include diplomatic and work in public service in the fields of conflict prevention, peace advocacy, and facilitation at negotiations.
