On November 29th, 2007-2008 Fulbright Student Grantee Bill Quillen returned to Moscow to perform a free concert at the Moscow Autumn Festival of Contemporary Music. The concert was titled "Berkeley-Moscow: A New Generation in Electroacoustic Music." For more information please visit the Center for Contemporary Music's website. Bill spent last year at the Moscow Conservatory working on his dissertation that explores the culture of contemporary art music during Russia's transition to post-socialism.
At an event sponsored by the Fulbright Program in Russia hosted at the American Center in Moscow on November 24th, Ambassador Beyrle addressed a crowd of educators, international exchange organizations, members of the press and U.S. Embassy staff. Fulbright Fellow Alexander Zolotarev has been selected as a winner of the 2008 Knight News Challenge. Zolotarev will receive a $600,000 grant to develop a website on the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia. His project was one of just 16 selected out of an international applicant pool of 3,000. Zolotarev is currently working on his dissertation at Moscow State University. He spent the 2007-08 academic year as a Fulbright grantee at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in New York City.
