I graduated from St. Olaf College in May 2007 with a B.A. in English and Russian language and a concentration in Women's Studies. Since then, I have completed an intensive Russian language course at the Center for Language Studies, Beloit College; interned with U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan; and blogged for Utne Reader. My Fulbright research draws on my journalistic skills and interests in women's studies and post-Soviet society. I will do a qualitative study, based on in-depth interviews, of college-age women's plans for careers and having children in light of the government's demographic initiative promising women roughly $10,000 to support their second and any subsequent child. I will work with Novgorod State University, where I studied in fall 2007. My past trips to Russia include working in an orphanage in Staraya Russa in 2004 and supervising a St. Olaf interim course on theater in Russia in January 2008. As a cellist and theater enthusiast, I'm looking forward to continuing my musical studies in Novgorod and traveling to St. Petersburg for classical concerts and plays.

After completing my Fulbright research, I plan to pursue a joint master's degree in political science and journalism.
