My name is Firdes Dimitrova and I’m a Fulbright Visiting Researcher at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA.

I’m doing my research in two fields. As an English Language Teacher at Foreign Languages Department of Voronezh State University I was affiliated to Temple College of Education to attend classes in TESOL and compare our domestic system of TEFL versus American TESL. As a post-graduate student in Foreign Literature I’m doing my research and collecting material for my thesis in American Native Literature. Also I’m a member of the faculty of Department of Curriculum, Instruction and Technology in Education at Temple University.

Also I’m taking figure skating classes and play the piano professionally.

Fulbright is my dream that came true as I knew from the very beginning that this Program is exactly what I needed. The possibilities provided by Fulbright are really fantastic. All you need is dream, set ambitious goals, dare, work hard and believe that everything is possible. Also Fulbright Award is a great honor.

It’s my first visit to USA and after arriving here I understood that another world of different possibilities is open for me now. Honestly speaking, no matter how prepared you are for this visit, in reality everything depends on our own situation and personal abilities and that’s why it’s hard to give personal advice. As for me, I’m not a person who gets scared of problems and unknown environment and so from the very first days I plunged enthusiastically into this new world full of amazing opportunities and great chances.

I was lucky to be invited to Miami Dade College Orientation in August where I and 70 other Fulbrighters all over the globe spent a wonderful week attending seminars, communication workshops and enjoying the time in one of the most attractive beaches in the world.

I’m doing my best to make my time here as productive as possible. Recently I attended the PennTESOL-East 2007 Fall Conference at the University of Pennsylvania where I met my colleagues from different states and learned about innovations in the world of teaching English. It was a new experience for me as I had a chance to see approaches and specificity for arranging and conducting conference in US. Also I learned how to make presentation.

This spring I’m planning to make my own presentation in my field of research in American Native Literature at the Southwest/Texas Popular & American Culture Association's 29th Annual Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. My abstract has already been approved and I was sent an acceptance letter.

Not long ago I and about 20 other Fulbrighters from Philadelphia found each other with the help of NY IIE Office and gathered together to have a great time. Our Philly Fulbright family decided to have such meetings every month.

Staying in US, I use any chance to perfect my language and understand diversity of America. I was deeply impressed by New York City where I went to one of the most famous Opera Houses in the world, the Metropolitan Opera to enjoy a great performance. I liked the special "spirit" of New Orleans, or Big Easy, where I listened to the best Jazz in my life. I still remember warm humid evenings of Miami and its colorful sparkling skyline… I’m thinking about visiting California, the Great Canyon, the Niagara Falls…

I'm full of plans and sure that all of them are feasible as everything is possible with Fulbright.
