My name is Evgeniia Lianskaia. I was born in Nizhny Novgorod in 1977 and graduated the Nizhny Novgorod State Conservatory named after M.Glinka in 2000. Now I am a postgraduate student there and my specialty is musicology. More concretely, my field of study is musical postmodern – the history of music in the last 3 decades of 20th century.
In Russian musicology the theory of postmodern is not so well developed yet, but in USA musical postmodern has long been a theoretical tradition. That is why it was so important for me to receive this Fulbright grant to be a visiting researcher at an American university. The University of Colorado at Boulder is a really beautiful and unusual place, situated close to
mountains, with a lot of cafes and bike paths. Here is a very big and rich library, where you can receive books and articles you need, almost from all universities of USA. The musical library and American Music Research Center are situated in College of Music, where, except for academic concert life, take place interesting performances in contemporary music, musicology seminars and colloquiums. So, I think it is a great chance for me to conduct research here, to study contemporary American music, to know American culture and, certainly, to finish my dissertation.
