Olga Dmitriyeva

I represent Siberian town Tomsk but I was born in the Ukraine and before my family settled down in Siberia we traveled quite a bit throughout the former Soviet Union. In Tomsk I attended Tomsk State University, department of Romano-Germanic philology, majoring in English and Foreign literature. My thesis was devoted to the comparative analysis of color terms in Russian and English languages.

In 2002 I graduated with honors, entered the post-graduate department of Tomsk State University, worked as a translator in a Russian-American computer company. Due to the character or my scientific work I was always very interested in the United States, American language, American mentality, but I never had a chance to visit this country. Now the Fulbright program provides me with this unique opportunity v I have been admitted to the 2-year Master of Arts program in Linguistics at the University of Kansas. I am really looking forward to my Fulbright experience in the U.S. and I am going to do my best in both: studying linguistics at the University of Kansas and studying America. I also hope to continue drawing and painting, which I like a lot. My recent hobby is silk painting. I also enjoy swimming, gardening and studying languages v I speak some French, Ukrainian, Polish and a little bit of German.
