Conference “Contacts of languages and cultures in the research work” - Galina N. Chirsheva, Cherepovets
The conference “Contacts of languages and cultures in the research work” of Fulbright alumni and potential participants of Fulbright Programs took place on April 15-16, 2015.
The aim of the proposed project was to arrange a conference for Fulbright alumni and those who were planning to participate in Fulbright programs.
The conference was opened with short greetings from the administration of Cherepovets State University and The Institute of Humanities.
The opening of the conference was followed by talks of five Fulbrighters who shared their Fulbright experience and further research in Russia and abroad:
Z.G. Proshina (Moscow, Russia);
G.N. Chirsheva (Cherepovets, Russia);
A.V. Kharkhurin (the Netherlands – Sharja, UAE);
E.V. Yushkova (Vologda, Russia);
T.V. Yakushkina (StPetersburg, Russia).
After that G.N. Chirsheva presented Fulbright programs (2016-1017) for students, faculty and school teachers. Then the alumni answered a number of questions about preparing and submitting applications for different Fulbright programs, gave advice on the application process.
At the end of first day of the conference professor A.V. Kharkhurin, who was invited to Cherepovets University form the American University of Sharja (UAE), gave two lectures on Bilingualism and Creativity.
The second day of the conference began with the photo exhibition in the museum of Cherepovets State University. The exhibition was devoted to the conferences the faculty of the department of Germanic Philology and intercultural communication have taken part at, on the foreign colleagues they have invited to the department and international conferences they have held in Cherepovets University for the previous 20 years.
Later on the second day of the conference the participants discussed problems concerning contacts between languages and cultures in 34 presentations held in 5 sessions. The talks covered linguistic and cultural issues of contacts between Russia and the USA, Russia and other countries, bilingualism and multilingualism, code switching and translanguaging, multiculturalism, English language learning and teaching, teaching Russian to foreigners, etc.
The participants represented several Russian and foreign universities, which helped establish further cooperation between Fulbright alumni and potential participants of Fulbright programs from different cities and countries.
The proceedings of the conference presentations as well as a number of articles from distant participants who were not able to come to the conference were collected in a conference book (46 papers in Russian and English).
