Galina Alexeeva has been working at Yasnaya Polyana, The State Memorial Museum of L. N. Tolstoy all her life - right after leaving the university. While at YP she worked on her PhD dissertation on Russian and American Literature at the Institute of World Literature (Russian Academy of Sciences) - IMLI, in Moscow. At YP she started as a junior research worker, then a senior research worker, then - since - 1993 - the head of the academic research department. In 1989 she prepared a very interesting exhibition (6 halls at the Literary Museum at YP) - "Tolstoy and America". For many years she has been working on the scholarly bibliographical description (annotated catalogue) of Tolstoy's personal library, which numbers 22,000 volumes in 40 languages. In 1999 volume 3 "Books in Foreign Languages" with all the marginal inscriptions, translations done by Leo Tolstoy, in two books was published. Right now she is working on volume 4 "Periodicals in Foreign languages". It was her idea to organize at YP the international academic conference "Tolstoy and World Literature" which takes place at YP every two years and unites the scholars on Tolstoy from many countries. This year, in early June, she organized the conference in Tbilisi "Tolstoy in the 1850s: Birth of a Writer" to celebrate the
150-th anniversary of Tolstoy's first publication "Childhood" (he was working on it in Tbilisi too). For her Yasnaya Polyana is the best place on earth and she enjoys her work there very much!
