I am graduating this May with a B.A. in Russian from Beloit College. As a Fulbright Fellow to Russia, I plan to spend 2007-08 studying "Russian as a foreign language (RFL)" pedagogy at the St. Petersburg Hertzen State Pedagogical University at the Department of Intercultural Communication, conducting a comparative analysis of RFL textbooks and materials produced in Russia over the past several decades and examining their use in the RFL classroom. I will take classes on the methodology of RFL pedagogy, and observe how methods and materials are used in RFL classrooms.
After spending a semester abroad in Krasnodar, Russia, during the fall of 2005, I realized that I wanted to become a Russian language teacher, and ever since I have been striving to achieve that goal. In addition to developing my teaching skills as a Russian tutor and an Elementary Russian teaching assistant, I have begun to pursue projects related to textbooks and other materials for the classroom, including assisting in the revision of an in-house textbook used at my college during the past year.
I look forward to returning to Russia, further developing my language skills and pedagogical knowledge, and simply enjoying life in Russia.
