I, Andy Bruno, was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, which is the home of the best pizza and punk rock in the world. After 18 years of enlightening sibling rivalry, my twin brother and I jetted out to opposite sides of the country. This landed me at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, where I just finished up my bachelor's degree this last May. In addition to the many hours I spent involved with student government at Reed, I concentrated my studies on Russian history. This last year I wrote a long senior thesis about the Russian intelligentsia, gender, and the Vekhi debate. On my Fulbright grant I will be studying environmental history at the European University at Saint Petersburg. My specific research project will involve examining the uses and conceptions of natural resources during the urbanization and industrialization of the Kola Peninsula. While in Russia I also intend to apply to history graduate programs.
