Sergey Golunov

Sergey Golunov was born in 1973. He holds a Ph.D. (Cand. Sci.) from the Institute of Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences (1998) and an MA from the Department of History, Volgograd State University (1995). He currently works as Associate Professor of the Chair of Area Studies and International Relations and Director of the Center for Regional and Transboundary Studies at Volgograd State University. Sergey Golunov is an author of 3 outlines of courses and 55 research works, including chapters in collective monographs, articles and working papers, published in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey. The field of his research interests includes the problems of transboundary interaction between Russia and other post-Soviet states, security issues of Central Asian region, ethno-social and religious problems of Southern Russia.
Within the Fulbright Program his proposed topic is “Social Conflict across Intercivilizational Borders: Russian-Kazakhstani and American-Mexican Borderlands in the Comparative Perspective”. He intends to carry out his research on the base of San Diego State University within the period between January and April of 2004.
