Artemieva Tatiana

Tatiana Artemieva, as many Russians now, has several positions: Academic Secretary at the Institute of Human Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences; Professor at the Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia in the Department of the Philosophy of Man, and the Director of research programs at the St. Petersburg Center for the History of Ideas. She does research on the history of ideas in Russia in the epoch of the Enlightenment and comparative studies in philosophy. She
tries to understand how (and why) philosophical ideas move and how they change and realize in different backgrounds. She wrote several books on this topic and was among organizers of about 20 international conferences on this topic (see ideashistory.org.ru for details).Her project in USA is entitled “’Nobleman philosopher’ in the Epoch of the Enlightenment: Texts and Contexts.” The project is devoted to Russian thinkers, first of all A.M. Beloselskii-Belozerskii in the context of Russian and international intellectual society and Masonic circles. Many documents on this topic are concentrated in American archives. The most important are the Bakhmeteff Archive (Columbia University, NYC) and the Houghton Library (Harvard College Library, Cambridge MA). Studying them will enrich our understanding of the Russian philosophical thought, its international relations, social and cultural context.
